Getting Involved in SOC Prison Ministry
Jesus made it clear that those in prison were His as well as any other people (Matthew 25:36). He came to die for the lost and it is our responsibility to reach every man with the Gospel no matter what he has done.
The man behind bars is no different than the man walking the streets, they both need the Savior. The great Apostle Paul said;
"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God."
Paul pretty well covered where most of us have been and what the Lord has saved us from, now we owe a debt to our brothers and sisters behind bars to take them the message of hope and deliverance. The School of Christ Prison Correspondence Course and Video classes were designed for that very purpose.
You Must Have a Burden for Prisoners
Most people fear prisoners because of the stigma of prison, but were we any better in God's sight? These are souls that Christ died for and their blood will be upon our hands if we do not include them while fulfilling the great commission. We have had such great testimonies come out of the prison population that we believe God has fully ordained this work and has blessed our efforts to bring the true Word of God to the men and women behind bars. Unless you have a burden for prisoners behind bars, this ministry work is not for you.
You Must Know the School of Christ Material
It is vital that you have a knowledge of the entire course. As a class leader, you must be familiar with the material presented as there will be questions asked, and you must have the answers in accordence with the School of Christ teachings.
When running my first school many years ago, Brother Clendennen told me, "Don't change my mind for me when you run the School". He meant, don't contradict the teaching when you run the Course. The School of Christ has been taught around the world for nearly 20 years and has proven to be very effective just as it is. If you don't agree with the School material, find another ministry resource, but Do Not change our course for us!
Church Involvment
How your Church can become involved in the SOC Prison Ministry
The School of Christ Prison Correspondence Course has grown beyond our wildest hopes and prayers. Your Church or Ministry can become involved simply by contacting us at our main office (409-842-3954). Upon approval, we will then provide you with all the materials to get the Correspondence course or Video School started in your local facility; it will be up to you to keep it going.
We will provide you with the entire Correspondence Course on a CD disk or the School DVD's. You will need to have Microsoft Office software to utilize these files. The booklets and tests are in the Word (.doc format). The Certificates are in the Publisher (.pub format) and the Data file, which is optional though very helpful in keeping track of your students, is in the Access (.dat.mdb format). If you will run a Video School, you will need to make arragngements with the Facility Chaplain to have a classroom, TV and DVD player available for you. The Video classes do not have tests for the inmates.
The CD disk for the Correspondence Course will also include the answer keys to all 19 series tests in a Word (.doc format), and an instruction sheet to begin using the SOC Correspondence course in your local facility. It will be necessary for you to review all of the material and become familiar with each Series.
